⚡Happy Miniature Monday, friends!
❓Question of the week: What's a game you've been wanting to try, but are intimidated by?
~~~
This past week, Bryan and I played our first ever game of Battletech. It was a full on learning game using the Beginner Box, and while we didn't get all the rules entirely perfect and spot on yet, we had a blast nonetheless!
~~~
Battletech seemed, from a distance, like an extremely complicated game. While that is true, it's not as scary as it seems. The beginner box does a great job of condensing down the rules of Classic Battletech into a digestible, right to the fun way of playing.
~~~
It allows you to get the core concepts of moving, shooting, initiative, and line of site down. Then once your comfortable with that you can start to sprinkle in the more nuanced rules such as Physical attacks, heat, and much more. There's no rush, just plain old fun.
~~~
Plenty of hilarious wow moments are still to be had in this beginner box. The tense moments of hoping to not take that last damage on my center core, or getting the head blown up are uproarious and fun! Positioning behind cover only to jump over your rival and blast away their armor is pure amusement.
~~~
I can see why Battletech has been around for so long and knowing that you can essentially add as much or as little to your game as you want is refreshing. We highly recommend you give at least the beginner box a try.
~~~
Next up we'll be trying a 4 mech team (or lance as it's better known) to add to the complexity a bit and we'll report back!
