As a magician you have been tasked with herding the local baby dragons. With the help of a magical book, use your power wisely and manipulate that book in your favor to be the best at what you've been tasked to do!
This game caught my eye right from the box art. Something about it seemed familiar. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it kept pulling at me. Could it be the powers of the magic book? Maybe. ✨
In this game, designed and illustrated by Michael Menzel, you will be essentially racing to acquire the most points by strategically herding dragons in front of you. Depending on the player count, after a number of amulets have been completed the game will end.
There are two stacks of cards in the middle that can be manipulated with by placing your own cards on them to make the criteria for herding specific dragons more akin to your liking. Yet, once you herd a dragon, everyone else has the choice to do the same, but only with the new option you created in the book.
The dragons are laid in 4 separate stacks in front of you. Once you have a dragon in the middle of two other dragons, you are no longer allowed to herd anymore of that type. So timing is key with everything.
This game has a surprising amount of decision space. It somewhat reminds me of Port Royal, where everyone can play on every turn depending on what is out on the table. It's a fun, quick, and charming little system that doesn't overwhelm or overstay it's welcome. This will for sure be coming out this holiday season with family!
